On October, 10th, 2021, the KU Volleyball Team played the Texas Longhorns. Both teams played in Lawrence, Kansas, at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. This was a fun game to witness and I’m glad that I got the opportunity to watch it. If you want to find out how the game plays out, keep reading!

The number of people in the stands was pretty surprising! No matter which team got the point, fans were impressed with the way both teams played and how they sent the ball over. Overall, there were more KU fans than Texas fans. The rallies that were held went on for a pretty long time. KU’s strengths were probably their spikes and sets. Texas, on the other hand, they were good at almost everything! Serves were always got sent over full power, their blocks would never let any tips or spikes over, and their passes would always go right to the setter/center.

In D1 volleyball, you play the best 3 out of 5 sets; and have to win by 2 points. The first set that KU and Texas played, wasn’t too impressive. KU lost the set 11- 25. At this time, Texas was ranked #1 in the whole COUNTRY. KU, on the other hand, wasn’t ranked at all. That says a lot. If you compare Texas to KU, KU doesn’t seem very good at all. Texas has only lost 2 games out of 27! KU has lost won 11 games and lost 8 games. Moving onto the second set, KU lost by 9 points. In the third set, KU did a nice job of keeping up with Texas until they lost it in the end. KU ended up losing to Texas for the third time, 18-25.

I got the chance to interview someone who was in the audience at the game, Sonja Fay. I’m going to be asking her a couple of questions about her thoughts and opinions about it! For my first question, “What team did you want to win? Why?” “I wanted Texas to win because they are a really good team, and are fun to watch.” For my next question, “What was your favorite part of the game?” “Seeing how the Texas players served and how their libero always dove for the ball.” That’s an interesting answer, “Do you plan on going to more volleyball games in the future?” “Yes, I am hoping to come back to Lawrence and watch some more games. Volleyball is a fun sport!”

Thank you Sonja for letting me take up your time to interview you. Volleyball is a fun and entertaining sport to watch! If you haven’t visited a volleyball game before, visit this link to see KU volleyball stats!
