If you have a teenager, or are one yourself, you probably have heard about the newest craze: slime. Tons of children and teenagers are going crazy making, playing, and slimeing away! This might sound fun, but it can cause some serious issues. I will be talking about these issues below.

     One of the most popular recipes for slime requires borax (a natural chemical, often used for cleaning purposes). Borax can cause 2nd and 3rd degree burns which are considered severe burns. The definition of a third degree burn according to Merriam Webster, “a severe burn characterized by destruction of the skin through its deeper layers and possibly into underlying tissues, loss of fluid, and sometimes shock”. Borax is a mild irritant to the skin, but usually doesn’t burn people. Some people have had very bad burns because of slime though. I watched a video on the popular video posting media, YouTube, by Karina Garcia. she briefly mentioned how she has heard that borax is toxic.      Sticky, ooey, and messy. These are three words that show what slime does. It sticks to various surfaces. Many people have issues with slime getting stuck in their hair, clothes, carpet, and furniture. If you make slime, then it will probably get spilled at some point in time or will get moldy and need to be thrown out. Getting it out of mostly anything is a challenge and might even leave a stain! Ooey means that slime might ooze out of it’s container or your hands and end up leaving a sticky result. Messy is a superb word to describe slime. Mess here, mess there, honestly mess everywhere! Slime makes a mess in the kitchen (or wherever it was made), where it’s being played with, and everywhere it goes. Slime is a mess of a craft that should only be described as, sticky, ooey, and messy.

     My last reason on why slime is bad, is that lots of stores are always sold out of slime supplies. When you go the store to buy glue, (one of the main slime ingredients), a lot of times you end up empty handed because slimers have bought it all. This is really irritating to people that need it for more productive purposes. When famous slime stores on Instagram announce how they make their slime, a lot of times that special ingredient they use is sold out in stores.

     Slime is a popular trend right now, but it’s not all fun and games. Slime can cause issues such as burns, messes and even inconvenience. It might seem harmless to a lot of people, but in reality it’s not a walk in the park. Slime is not good, and my reasons above support this.
