Have you ever been in a plane? How about a Car? Well, I have been in both, and today we are going to be putting traveling in a car up against traveling on a plane. We are going to have three rounds and talk about three different aspects: Cost, Time, and Freedom. Who will win: Car or Plane?
The first round is going to be about time. For the sake of this story the destination that we will be going to is New York City. First is a car. In a car, it will take an estimated 20 hours to get there on the road. One thing you do have to remember is that you will probably need to stop a few times on the way. Now, we are going to talk about a plane. On a plane it will take about 4 hours and 25 minutes to get there. Something you have to think about is turbulence, which can set you back in time and also delays, security, parking and some other things. But I think overall, when we talk about how long it takes to get there, plane takes this one.
Time for the second round, and this time we are talking about freedom. You might be wondering what that means, but keep reading and you will find out. We will be talking about cars first. In a car, you have the freedom to be able to make stops and go sightseeing along the way to your destination. It will add time to your travels but you have the freedom to do that. Next a plane on a plane your obviously in the air, so you can’t necessarily go sight seeing or make a ton of stops. You also rely on the airport and plane to get you there on time, so you dont have a lot of freedom. I think it’s safe to say that car won this round.
Now, the last round. It all comes down to this to see who wins. Let’s talk about cost. First up is the car. It’s difficult to give an exact cost, but a road trip from Emporia, KS to New York City, including gas, food, and lodging, is estimated to cost around $1,200. For lodging, I added a night because I know that if I did the trip I would want to do a 2 day trip. Also, this can vary with the vehicle and even how many people. For the plane it would be $186. Again this number could vary on what day you’re going out on, how many people, and what airlines. I used American Airlines for this but Delta, Southwest, and United all had very similar prices. Last thing is that all of these prices are all one way.
I can now announce that the winner is plane. After three rounds of battle it was close but it all came down to the last one. And the plane flew away with the win. Like I said in the other paragraphs there are a lot of ways that all these things could vary and so many other things that you could compare about these ways to get there. But any way you choose to travel, I hope you have a good trip.
