“The floor exercise is where power meets grace.” -Simone Biles, this is another great quote from Simone Biles and it is so true. Floor is a hard event but every gymnast makes it look easy. I will be telling you what floor is and some history, what I like about it, and an interview with Alivia Browsmer.
Floor is such a great event because you get to have fun and be creative when creating your routine. In your routine you must have a leap pass, and at least 2 tumbling passes. Everyone’s floor routine is different even if they have the same song and choreography because everyone adds little bits of dramaticness and exaggeration to certain bits to make it fun for that individual. Floor used to be very dangerous because girls would add difficult tumbling passes and if they landed wrong it could end their career.
Floor is my second favorite event because I love tumbling and dancing even though I’m not that good at it. Right now my tumbling passes are front handspring and round off back-handspring, but our season just ended so it’s gonna change. I love that on floor you get to have fun and smile and be happy, but at the same time you have to be serious because you can’t mess around when you do your passes or you could get hurt. For example, I did my round off back-handspring at practice, but I bailed and I landed on my neck/head, and I had a really bad headache. But it could have been a lot worse.
Now I will be interviewing Alivia to find out what she likes about floor.
Q- Why do you like floor?
A- I like that you can dance.
Q- What is your favorite part in your routine and why?
A- I like my dance after my round off back handspring because it’s sassy.
Q- What advice would you give someone trying to improve their floor routine?
A- Just make sure you get into your floor music and smile.
Q- What has been your best or most memorable floor performance?
A- At state because I stuck everything.
Thank you for letting me interview you Alivia!
In conclusion, floor is the funnest but still a hard event in gymnastics. It can be dangerous, but it is like you’re flying when you do your passes and get good height. Floor can be so exciting because if you get a perfect 10, it is like a dream come true and that can be the best part of your career. Here you can watch Jordan Chiles get a perfect 10 on floor competing for UCLA in 2025. Make sure you check out my other stories to learn more about gymnastics.
