Have you ever wanted to go to practice so bad and play volleyball…but there isn’t practice today? Well, if you have, then I have just the story for you! I am going to show/tell you about some of my favorite drills that you can do at home by yourself or with a parent. I will be informing you of libero and defence drills to improve fast reflexes.
Wall Tracking
For this drill, you need one other person, a ball, a wall, and of course you. You will be facing a wall, down and ready to receive the ball. The other person is going to be about 6-10 feet behind you and throw the ball against the wall but not very hard so you still have time to react to the ball. This drill can also be a solo drill if you throw the ball against the wall, then instantly get into position. A bonus thing you could do is get some duct tape or a thick strip of tape (preferably colored) and make a square and then aim for getting the ball in the box to improve ball control.
4 Ball Defence
For this drill, you need another person and a ball. For this drill it is also recommended that you have a bigger space to practice in. This drill improves your stamina, rapid reaction, and also gets you ready for more pressure for in-game scenarios so you have more room to practice these things. First you are going to pick a spot on the court and then the other person will send the ball at you to recieve. Once you get the first ball up, then they will slap the 2nd ball for you to run and get, but this time you don’t know where they might throw the ball, so you have to read their body language to get ahead of the ball. They continue the process until you have passed 4 balls.
Turn And Dig
For this drill, you need another person, and a ball. The other person will be about 10 feet away from you and you turn your back to them. They will slap the ball and you will turn around. Then they will either hit the ball at you or throw it really short, so it is important that you are ready for any ball coming to you. It is also important that your down and ready stance is correct. You could even sit in a chair because it is very important that you stay closer to the ground when passing.
I hope that you have learned some piece of advice because it is important to practice drills to get better at your form, power, stamina, etc. You should also always be consistent with playing every day or at least try and these drills don’t require a whole team practice.
