Have you ever gone to see Mount Rushmore? Well, I have. It’s a great place to go. The view of the mountains in the morning is beautiful. If you go to Mount Rushmore, you should also stop by Crazy Horse Memorial, honoring the Lakota leader Crazy Horse and Native American culture. The trip we took to The Black Hills of South Dakota was honestly, and will always be the best trip I have ever went on.
The start of the trip to The Black Hills of South Dakota felt like a very long drive. It was about 11 hours from Emporia to where we were staying. The start of the trip was making me very bored, so I played some of these small board games with my brother, and we also played a a little of I-Spy. The views out the window while we were driving was beautiful, especially since it was summertime, and it was raining, so I saw lots of rainbows. Especially when we got in the mountains pretty because it had just rain there. It was kinda scary to be driving up in the slick road in the mountains. But the amazing view of the mountains and the rainbow in the distance made up for it.
When we got to our hotel (Comfort Inn), it was very nice and had a pretty view of the mountains and houses. Once we got all situated in our hotel, we went to dinner and then went back to our hotel and went to sleep. In the morning, we had a busy day. We went to crazy horse, it was pretty cool, and they had some cool souvenirs you could buy, and I bought a necklace. Then we went to a few little shops, and I got a sweatshirt that said Mount Rushmore and a little pink and green crochet turtle named Tinny Tim. We also went on a helicopter and saw Mount Rushmore from the air, which, if you have the opportunity to go on a helicopter and see Mount Rushmore, you should. Then we went back to our hotel and went to sleep.
In the morning, we packed up, got ice cream, and walked around Mount Rushmore, and then we went home. We ate some really good food when we went on the trip. I had some butterfly shrimp, this Huckleberry Ice cream, donuts, and waffles with honey. I think the best thing we did was probably riding in the helicopter. It was a part of my bucket list, and I was in the front with the pilot, and the window next to me went all the way to the floor, and it felt like I was floating. Crazy Horse Memorial was also probably one of the best things we did. It was interesting learning about the background of it that I wouldn’t have even thought about before like the fact that it is still in progress to make and has been under construction for 78 years!
The trip we took to The Black Hills of South Dakota was honestly and will always be the best trip I have every went on. I would definitely recommend going to The Black Hills of South Dakota and seeing Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore You should also try some Huckleberry Ice cream if you go. The Black Hills of South Dakota is also just a really good way to get a calm but really fun trip, whether you are with your family, friends, or just yourself.
