Are you new to the school? Whether you are a new student or staff member. I asked Ms.Ochs, a nurse at Emporia Middle School for some advice for new students or staff members.
Q:”Hi my name is Callia Foraker, and i was wondering if you had any advice for new students and staff members?”
A:”Middle School can be the toughest years for kids. A lot of changes are taking place. Friends, interests, social media and body changes all have an effect.
My advice is to Be Yourself. Don’t try to be someone you are not. You will find your group of friends. Be open to meeting new people.
Get Involved. Maybe try a sport or activity that you have not tried before. There are many sports and activities offered at EMS.
Get Plenty of Sleep. Your body needs plenty of rest to function correctly. Staying up watching TV, playing video games or on your phone is not allowing your body the rest it needs to keep you healthy and functioning at your best.
Make Good Choices. Life is full of choices; it’s up to you to make good ones. Your future depends on making good choices in all aspects of life.
And above all… Be Kind. Kindness goes a long way and does not cost you anything. Be kind to yourself, other students and staff. Kindness can carry you far in life.
For new staff, I encourage you to reach out and get to know others in the building outside your team or hallway. Meet and get to know everyone from the custodians, kitchen staff, paras, office staff, nurses and counselors.
They may have a skill set you need to call upon someday and can be a good resource for you in the building. 😉 We are all in this together!!
I hope this is the “advice” you were looking for. If not, let me know.
Thanks for asking!
-Tiffany Ochs”
