My brother has special needs and has problems or challenges. My brother has a battery on his heart to slow down his seizures. According to Cleveland Clinic, “Seizures are a temporary episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain that can cause a variety of symptoms, including Convulsions, Loss of consciousness, Confusion, Sensory changes, and Emotional changes. His age is different from how he acts; he acts like a young child even though he is an adult. His age is much more than how he acts. I’m not meaning he is childish, but that his brain is underdeveloped. Big challenges that people like my brother can face are learning responsibilities, like taking hard everyday types of responsibilities that we would say are easy but for them, everyday tasks that are the most challenging like brushing your teeth. Another challenge would be space. Sometimes they don’t understand personal space and social cues. They don’t always understand when things are funny and not.
There are some really amazing things about people with special needs. One thing is that they don’t really understand strangers; everyone is their friend. They don’t judge other people. So they don’t see their hair, clothes, or anything about others. They just see them as friends. They love to make people laugh and smile. They also love to dance, sing, and overall just have fun.
How do people with special needs react to our society and others that are like them? Those with special needs see things differently. Sometimes they think everyone is good or everyone is scary. And sometimes they don’t know danger from safety. Some people that have disabilities want to be independent. Sometimes they are able to live on their own with supervision and sometimes they aren’t. But there are some organizations that help them find homes with other people like them. Living on their own makes people with special needs feel proud, accomplished, and like they are a part of something special. They get frustrated with each other but then minutes later could be best friends. They love to play sports or any other activity with each other and love to compete with one another.
